Saturday 30 April

Sandy Colts v Cranfield Colts U15 girls

Following two draws Cranfield finally got the win they have been deserving beating Sandy 3-1.  The pitch was rock solid causing both teams problems with the bouncing ball.  Cranfield soon took control with Hannah splitting the defence open several times with pinpoint passes from a series of one two passes from the half way line between Hannah, Ellie and Palma, Hannah’s shot was well saved by the goal keeper but Hannah was first to react and scored from the rebound.  The pressure continued and Cranfield increased their lead when Ellie scored following a corner.  Cranfield were well on top now playing open attacking football and went further ahead when Lydia received a ball in space and lobbed the goal keeper from 25 metres.

After half time Sandy came out fighting and it was Cranfield’s turn to defend.  Cranfield were restricted to breakaway attacks with Palma and Lydia making long runs down each wing causing problems for the Sandy defence.  Sandy pulled a goal back when Cranfield failed to clear a bouncing ball and Sandy’s striker scored from close range.

Saturday 16 April

Biggleswade v Cranfield Colts Girls Under 15

A friendly welcome awaited out team at Biggleswade’s ground.  Both teams started at a fast pace, playing open and attacking football, with chances being made at both ends.  Both defences were playing well with some very strong goal kicks stopping and clearing any danger.  Cranfield fell behind towards the end of the first half when a Biggleswade shot went in just inside the post.  It was a surprise the score was only one nil at the end of the first half as both teams had some excellent shots at goal.

Second half started off with Biggleswade attacking and scoring early on.  Chloe went on to score from close range.  This inspired the Cranfield team who dominated the end of the game creating chance after chance with Palma scoring following a run from the half way line.  The final score was two all with Cranfield having played their best game to date with every player playing an important part in the end result.

Saturday 5 March

Cranfield Colts v Sandy

Sandy had a strong side on Saturday who used the whole pitch well making it hard work for the Cranfield Girls.  Playing up hill in the first half Cranfield were forced to defend most of the time managing only a very few attacks.  Sandy deservedly scored first after Cranfield failed to clear the ball following a corner.  Palma evened up the score running from the half way line to bundle the ball past the Sandy keeper.  Sandy replied almost immediately with a breakaway goal.  The score at half time was 2 – 1 to Sandy.

Sandy again controlled much of the second half and scored soon after the restart.  Palma answered with a repeat of her first goal running through and placing the ball past the goal keeper.  Sandy sealed the victory with a cracking 25 metre shot into the top corner.  Final score 4 – 2 to Sandy

Cranfield Colts v AFC Kempston

cranfield v kempston

A local derby always increases the interest and excitement in a match.  The game started lively with Cranfield pushing forward at every opportunity.  Kempston were dangerous on the break using the pace of their forwards to run at the Cranfield defence, which held firm.  Towards the end of the first half Cranfield forced a series of corners with Lydia coming closest heading the ball against the post.  The second half started the same as the first with Cranfield piling on the pressure as they pushed for a goal.  Kempston again looked dangerous on the break but were not able to find a way through the well organised Cranfield defence.  The breakthrough finally happened following good work down the left for Cranfield.  Daizy made a good run and finally found Palma with a neat pass.  She ran on strongly before shooting past the goalkeeper for the opening goal.  Kempston replied immediately by putting Cranfield under pressure.  The defence held firm.  As the game became more open Lydia was causing Kempston a lot of problems as she ran at their defence and produced a number of dangerous crosses.  The second goal for Cranfield was a result of a team effort from all areas of the pitch.  It started with some sound defensive work resulting in Antonia bringing the ball forward then with neat passes through and across the midfield it was Hannah who made the decisive pass with the outside of her left foot for Palma to run onto and score with a left footed shot into the far corner of the goal.  The game ended 2-0 to Cranfield, a result down to another good all-round team performance.  Yet again the girls are improving game by game since the Christmas break.

St Martins v Cranfield Colts Girls U15

The girls came back after the Christmas break with renewed vigour.  We had an early start to get to the pitch in Luton and kick off was at 10.30.  This was the girls’ first match in a long time due to the adverse weather conditions and we were all a little we had given his team a “good run for their money”.  Those of us watching felt that this was the worried that they may be a bit rusty!  But no the girls were on top form against a tough team.  There was some fantastic defending and our goalie Rosie was amazing diving all over the place saving goals.  At half time the score was 0-0.  Unfortunately in the second half St Martins scored two goals and won the game.  The home team’s manager was very impressed with our girls and thought that best the girls had played all season.  Well done Cranfield Colts Girls you were amazing!

Kempston’s Emma scored an easy goal after the first 5 minutes.  Lydia fought back with a beautiful goal off her head unfortunately this was swiftly followed by another Kempston goal just before the whistle was blown for the end of the game.  The final score was 4 - 3.  Cranfield played superbly and deserved to win this match.

Sacred Heart v Cranfield Colts Girls U15

The game started evenly with both teams playing a good passing game.  Sacred Heart opened up the Cranfield defence putting their winger through.  Antonia made a determined effort to catch her up making a vital tackle to clear the danger.  Sacred Heart regained possession and attacked again forcing a great point blank save from Daizy.  This end to end game was lively and soon Cranfield were on the attack but were stopped by a good save from the Sacred Heart keeper.  From the next Sacred Heart attack their winger attempted a cross, which she mishit, and it drifted over everybody into the Cranfield net.  Within two minutes of the restart a left wing cross from Sacred Heart was not cleared properly and bounced around in the area before Sacred Heart got the final touch to make the score 2-0.  Cranfield stepped up the pressure with Palma getting into the game with several good runs.  From one of these she passed to Lydia splitting the defence but again the keeper saved well.  Sacred Heart then forced two great saves from Daizy as she ran out and dived at the feet of the forwards.

The second half started with Cranfield on the attack.  Chloe had a good chance to score as she split the defence and ran on only for the keeper to save well.  Eli came on and within a minute through determined tackling she won the ball and ran down the left only to be fouled on the edge of the penalty area.  Chloe struck the free kick just wide of the far post.  Chloe then put pressure on the Sacred Heart defence winning the ball well and passing to Hannah whose shot was well saved by the keeper.  Palma then had a run from the halfway line and shot narrowly wide.  Palma and Chloe then worked well together with Chloe again having her shot saved by the keeper.  Sacred Heart then started to control the game with Daizy making several good saves and Leanne making a number of headed clearances.  From a long clearance out of defence by Sacred Heart their forward shot and Daizy saved well but the rebound was tapped in to make it 3-0.  In the next few minutes Cranfield were overrun by quick accurate passing allowing Sacred Heart to score a further 3 goals.  Cranfield rallied towards the end and following good pressure by Hannah and Chloe to win the ball for Palma to run through and score.   There was still time left for Sacred Heart to put together a well worked move of 8 quick passes ending with their seventh goal.  The score line was a little harsh but with more concentration and consistency Cranfield can reduce the mistakes and improve on this result.

Cranfield Colts Girls U15 v Biggleswade UFC

The game started off well with Cranfield pressuring Biggleswade with more possession of the ball at the start.  A good attempt at goal by Biggleswade started their attack which was swiftly followed by an attempt at goal from Hannah.  Our keeper, Daizy, saved a number of attempts to score goals by Biggleswade.  There was some good inter-passing by the Cranfield girls however after the first 15 minutes Biggleswade scored their first goal.  Strong attack by Biggleswade led to a free kick being given to Cranfield who attempted to score but it narrowly missed scraping the top of the goal posts.  Daizy made another good save which left Biggleswade with a corner to take which was swiftly kicked out of the box and followed up by a long run from Cranfield who went for goal.  Biggleswade followed this up with another goal.  Daizy saved another attempt by coming out of the goal area and narrowing the angle effectively.  By half time Biggleswade had scored another goal.

Cranfield started the second half off with an excellent header which Biggleswade’s goalie saved.  Cranfield were on the attack.  Unfortunately Biggleswade’s goalie took a ball to the face and went down stopping play for a few minutes.  She bravely got up and continued in her position.  Another goal by Biggleswade put them 0 – 4 up.  Palma made a lovely attempt at goal which was saved.  Lydia had a long run at goal but again her attempt was saved.  Daizy dived to save a strong kick but some excellent skills by Biggleswade resulted in another goal.  With seconds to go Biggleswade scored their final goal ending up winning 0 – 6.  Well done to Cranfield girls who fought a strong team.

Cranfield Colts Girls U15 v Flitwick Eagles

The game started off with some lovely defending by Lydia  and Antonia.   This was followed by a great attack by Cranfield with an enormous kick from Leanne to Chloe  who chipped it on to Hannah  who set it up for Palma  who narrowly missed the goal sending Flitwick Eagles defence into panic.  This was quickly answered with a goal from Flitwick’s number 8 which was nearly saved by Daizy.  This was followed by a second goal from Flitwicks number 9 and all in the first 15 minutes of the game.  Flitwick took the corner which was brilliantly defended by Leanne who booted it out of the area.  Flitwick had another corner which was headed towards goal and saved by Daizy.  Lydia followed this with an amazing header to Chloe who won a hard tackle from Flitwick.  The girls were really passing the ball around well, Chloe passed to Dani who sent it forward to Palma who then put it into the back of the net.  Hannah took a lovely header and a goal mouth scramble was well cleared by Cranfield.  Flitwick’s number 9 went on to score her second goal from outside the area which was followed by another good save from Daizy.  Just before half time a free kick was given to Flitwick and saved again by Daizy.

After half time there was a 1st minute goal by Flitwick Eagles which Cranfield quickly followed up with a try at goal by Palma from a pass by Hannah.  Lydia suffered a knee injury from a strong tackle and bravely continued to play on.  Chloe went on to score another goal which was swiftly followed by another one from Palma from a beautiful pass by Antonia who was having a terrific game.  This was answered immediately by another goal from Flitwick.  Yet again Daizy saved a strong attempt at goal by meeting the ball at the player’s feet.  Flitwick went on to score a further goal leaving the score at 3 -6.  The girls had probably played their best and hardest match of the season and should all be proud of themselves.

Toddington Rovers v Cranfield Colts Girls U15

An even start to the game both sides trying to attack with Cranfield just having the upper hand at this stage.  A lovely through pass by Chloe after 3 minutes releasing Lydia down the wing to cross but Toddington’s defence cleared.  A minute later Cranfield scored the opening goal with Hannah passing a through ball to Palma to run on to and calmly shoot into the back of the net.  Toddington pushed forward immediately and after a few minutes pressure forced a good save from Daizy.  Cranfield replied when Palma ran from the half way line beating all defenders forcing a good save by the Toddington goal keeper.  Toddington forced a number of corners in succession with Cranfield finally clearing their lines with a strong header from Alice.  The game continued end to end with good play down the left side for Cranfield by Ellie, Hannah and Palma.  As half time came Toddington pushed forward and pressurised the Cranfield defence with a number of corners.

The second half started at a fast pace with Cranfield forcing an early corner taken by Palma.  Dani got on the end of it forcing a good save from the Toddington keeper.  Toddington replied forcing a number of saves by Daizy.  A long free kick by Dani put the pressure back onto the Toddington defence who coped well and cleared the danger.  Another Palma corner was headed goalwards by Chloe forcing another good save by the Toddington keeper.  Toddington then pushed forward with a number of shots going just wide or being saved by Daizy.  Cranfield began to tire giving more space to the Toddington players who put everything into attack to get the equaliser.  That came following a corner when Toddington were first to the ball looping a shot over the defence and goal keeper.  Cranfield rallied and nearly got the winner when Antonia sent a pass which split the defence on the half way line for Chloe to run on to.  Her shot narrowly missed.  The full time whistle went in what was a very even, end to end and sporting game.  Well done to both teams.
